Welcome to a world where the past comes alive!

Who we are

The Pioneer Museum and Historical Society of North Iowa was founded in October 1964 by Mrs. George (Avis) Ludeman and a dedicated group of community members committed to preserving the region’s history. With the generous support of a $100,000 grant from the Kinney Lindstrom Foundation, construction began on what would become the Kinney Pioneer Museum. The museum officially opened its doors to the public in the spring of 1968.

Today, the museum is conveniently located at the entrance to the Mason City Municipal Airport, just two miles east of Clear Lake and seven miles west of Mason City, Iowa, making it easily accessible to residents and visitors alike.

The mission of the KPM is to preserve and share the rich heritage of North Central Iowa by bringing history to life through authentic artifacts, interactive demonstrations, and immersive exhibits. Visitors can experience hands-on history with working displays such as a 200-year-old rug weaving loom, a 160-year-old apple cider press, an antique Reliance printing press similar to those used in early American print shops, and a fully operational blacksmith shop.
